Auction Night is coming ...

Dear Covington Parents,

The Covington PTA has a proud tradition of holding an annual auction to raise funds to support our educational programs. This year, the auction will take place on Saturday, March 20th at 6:00pm at the Crowne Plaza Cabaña Hotel in Palo Alto. The theme of the event is "A Night of Good Fortune" and over 200 supporters are expected to attend.

For the 2009-2010 school year, the Covington PTA approved a budget of over $188,000 for academic and enrichment programs to benefit our children. The PTA approved this budget so that Covington could arrange for basic programs that would not otherwise be provided. For example, the PTA is funding CSMA music instruction for grades K-3, lunchtime supervision and activities, and new reference and circulation materials for the library, to name a few. The PTA also supports our teachers and staff by providing supplies, stipends, and technology for classroom use. In addition to these on-going expenses, the Los Altos School District has assessed each local PTA a $25,000 charge for printing and supply costs. A list of current-year programs that the PTA has committed to fund is attached for your reference.

It may come as a surprise to learn how much the PTA supports and what a difference these donated funds make to our children's education. These programs would not exist without PTA support. For these reasons, the PTA is depending on the auction to raise $60,000 to pay for a portion of these current-year programs. We hope we can count on your support.

There are many ways you can help. You can attend the event, donate an auction item, arrange for a local business to make a donation, purchase advertising space in the catalog, or underwrite a portion of the event. Your gift, no matter how big or small, will be greatly valued.

As part of the auction countdown, we will be sending school-wide emails, updates in the Howler, and flyers in the Thursday folders to keep you posted on auction activities. Please look out for these messages and let us know how you can help.
