The Covington Howler - January 28th, 2010
From Erin Green, Principal
Dear Covington Parents and Community:
We
have had a very busy week at Covington, from our Students Council
Officers presenting at Monday night's School Board Meeting, to Science
Night, our Cornerstone Parent Class and next up tonight, Kindergarten
Information Night at 6:30pm.
Thank you to our PTA and Ingrid Choong,
for creating an outstanding learning opportunity for our students.
Science Night was a great success; students and parents were
enthusiastically engaged in the many activities last night.
Project Cornerstone Update
As
part of our implementation of the Cornerstone Program at Covington, we
held our first Parent workshop yesterday morning. Spaces are still
available, so if you are interested in joining, feel free to attend
next Wednesday, February 3rd at 8:30 am.
Many of you have asked about the staff component of Project Cornerstone. On Wednesday, February 10th,
Linda Silvius will provide training for staff members around building/
fostering the developmental assets on campus. In March, 4th and 5th grade students will have the opportunity to participate in an "Expect Respect'
workshop, also around the developmental assets. More information will
follow on future Cornerstone plans at Covington. In the meantime, if
you would like more information, please visit:
Thank you for your ongoing support!
Sincerely,
Erin S. Green

impacted by the earthquake in Haiti. We have joined forces with
Partners in Health and will be donating all money to their efforts.
Please consider making a donation to this cause through our upcoming
fundraising events.

the link to make your donation and help us reach our goal.
2.
Bake Sale (rain or shine): Student Council is hosting another bake sale
tomorrow, Friday, January 29th at 2:45. If it is raining, the bake sale
will be set up in the Multi. Otherwise, look for us on the playground.
This money will be added to our account with Partners in Health.
3.
Change Drive: We will be collecting change and dollar bills in
classroom collection boxes during the week of Feb. 8-12th. This money
will also be added to our account with Partners in Health.
4.
Science Boards for the Science Fair: You will be able to purchase a
science board to display your science experiment information on for the
Covington Science Fair. Boards will be on sale after school by the

Community Information
FREE GOODIES FROM LAEF
LAEF car window clings will be coming home in your child's Thursday folder on 2/11 as a 'thank you!' and as a way to promote LAEF awareness in the larger community in advance of our spring community campaign.
Spread the word about LAEF in the community by displaying your car window cling! Goodies will be given randomly to cars displaying their clings in the school parking lot. Don't miss out!
It's never too late to show your support for LAEF and our schools. We strive for one hundred percent participation. Have you donated yet? Go online to contribute at www.laefonline.org laefonline.org
LAEF SURVEY
Los
Altos Educational Foundation is conducting a parent survey Wednesday,
January 20th through Wednesday, February 4th! The parent survey is very
important because it is the only formal feedback mechanism through
which parents from across all District schools can let LAEF know which
educational enrichment programs they want LAEF to support. Using the
results from this year's survey, the LAEF Grant-making Committee will
determine LAEF's 2010-11 grant, and then work with District leadership
to ensure that the programs parents value most are offered next year. Click here to access the survey.
Please participate in the survey and make sure your voice is heard!
BOOK DRIVE
Have
you ever wanted to help another child in need? Well, here's your
chance! Ryan Ratner and Rachel Wolff, two sixth graders at Covington,
are holding a book drive from now until the February break. All you
need to do is take old children's books you don't want anymore, bring
them to us, and we will take them to students at Castro Elementary
School in Mountain View. Many of these students are not as advantaged
as our students at Covington, so it's up to US to help them out! So
PLEASE, help us by bringing books that you don't want anymore. We will
have a big box for collecting books in front of the office during
school hours.
Thank you!
