Dear Covington Parents and Community:
March madness is here! (and this doesn't even include college basketball!)
March
will be a busy month at Covington School. To give you a taste of what's
to come, we have the following events to look forward to:
-Junior Olympics kick-off
-Music Performances for grades 1-3
-Science Fair
-The PTA " A Night of Good Fortune" auction!!
Of
course there are also field trips and fun learning experiences to be
had in every grade, but March is a month of major community events. I
look forward to seeing you all at one of several of these celebrations.

Cornerstone Update
-We still have three more sessions of of our parent workshops on Wednesday mornings.
-The
Expect Respect Workshop for students will be help on March 19th in the
afternoon. Parents of students who are invited to participate will be
notified very soon.
-In the Spring, we will be piloting the ABC (Asset Building Champions) Program with our 4th grade classes

Order 2009-2010 Yearbooks!
Place orders on online at Covington Website (click here
for Yearbook) or make check payable to Covington PTA and indicate your
child's name and room# on the memo line and drop off to Yearbook box in
front office.

Student
Council is still collecting donations for medical relief in Haiti!
Please consider making a donation in the following ways.

Science Boards for the Science Fair: Purchase a science board to
display your science experiment information on for the Covington
Science Fair. Boards will be on sale after school by the Multi on the
following days: Feb. 25th,26th, and March 3rd, 4th
and 5th. Boards cost $3.00 for a white board and $5.00 for a colored
board. This money is also being added to our account with Partners in
Health.
Thank
you to everyone who has already made a donation! Together, we have
already donated over $500 through our website and the bake sale! Plus,
we raised just over $300 from our donation drive! We are so proud of
the commitment the Covington community has to making a difference!

Junior Olympics
Junior Olympics, Sat. April 24th at Mountain View High School
Junior Olympics Student Kick-off - Fri. March 5 in the Multi
4th - 6th grade students attend this fun event to participate in games and learn about training.
Parents
of 4th, 5th, and 6th graders... get your sport shoes out.... Junior
Olympics is just 2 months away and its time to start preparing our
Covington Coyotes!
Each Thursday beginning on March 11
during PE, your students will learn and practice Junior Olympics events
- (chin-ups, standing long jump, clearing hurdles, shooting baskets,
jumping rope, throwing softballs and running the 75 yard dash). All
this practice requires a lot of parent help.
Please consider helping with this special event training by attending the: Train the Trainers meeting: Wednesday March 3rd at 1pm, Springer Elementary School.
Thursday 3/11-4/22 Practice Sessions:
12:40-1:20pm
1:25-2:05pm
2:10-2:50pm

Community Information
Get Ready for February 29th Family Talent Night! - Sponsored by Los Altos Special Education PTA
Come join the fun with LASD families, staff and friends on Sunday, February 28th from 4:00 - 5:30pm in the Loyola School Multi-Purpose Room. Share talents individually, together or just watch. Click here for more information or to participate, contact Lisa Zuegel at lisa@zuegel.us by February 19th.
The Covington Pack 76 Pinewood Derby is coming soon!
Non-scouts
are very welcome to attend the events (held in the Multi-Purpose Room).
If you need a race car to build (instructions and materials included),
please email event chair Mariette Wharton or call 650-353-1125.
-Friday, March 12 (6:30 pm - 8 pm) - entertaining family "Down & Derby" movie to get you in the mood
-Saturday, March 13 (10 am to 1 pm) - test your car on the track (and adjust if needed)
-Sunday, March 14 (bring your car by 3:15 pm - Open race roughly 3:30-3:45 pm ) - race day - get your graphite on!
Castro Book Drive a Success!
