Dear Covington Families,
Happy Friday! I hope you all had a fantastic week. Yesterday was the first TK Assembly! Our TK students received their first round of Coyote Achievement Awards. They also saw our coyote mascot, heard some announcements about upcoming events (WOW, minimum day/no school next Friday, and the Walkathon). We also read a book together and practiced learning the Pledge of Allegiance! TK will have a monthly assembly, and the next date is Thursday, November 5th! In general, they will be in the multi on the first Thursday of each month. Today, the whole school celebrated a Walk-or-Wheel day! It was fantastic to see the participation and high enthusiasm in front of Covington this morning. Walk-or-Wheel days will be on the first Friday of each month! Following the morning assembly, we had a PTA general meeting in the staff room- thank you to everyone who attended! Here are the Principal Update slides from the meeting! Please read the PTA section later in this newsletter for additional PTA information.

T1 STEM Challenge: It’s time for a really fun STEM challenge! Design one hole of a mini golf course, and a club to use on your hole! You can build it at home, or in the STEM lab during lunch at school (see Sign up Sheet), or both! Use recycled and repurposed materials. On October 23rd at lunch, we will set up all the holes into a course and play some mini golf! Families welcome! |
Seeking Lunchtime Volunteers: We are looking forward to opening our STEM Lab for students at lunchtime on Mondays! We are looking for a few volunteers to help with lunchtime STEM. We are also hoping to add an additional lunch duty or two to help monitor students at the tables and playgrounds! Please complete this interest form if you are interested in learning more!
|
We are also super excited to share that Mr. Cee Garcia, one of our TK aides, will be helping with morning parking duty beginning next week! He will be out there from 8- 8:30 to help students cross safely and support the flow of traffic in our lot. If you see him, please say hello. We are grateful for his support!

Have a great weekend,
Kate

New: Online Payments through PowerSchool: LASD families can now make online payments directly through the PowerSchool Parent Portal. Families can conveniently pay school-related fees or make donations associated with an individual student, including field trips, assessed charges for lost or damaged materials, and more. Donations to PTA and LAEF should not be made through this portal, instead please click here to donate to the PTA and here to donate to LAEF
When selecting the payment option in PowerSchool, families will be directed to our third-party payment provider, eFunds, and will need to create an account before making their first payment. Once an account is established, payments can be made by credit card or ACH/bank transfer with a small processing fee. Families who prefer to pay by check may continue to do so directly at their school.
This new online option simply gives families another convenient way to manage student-related payments securely, all in one place.
Logging into PowerSchool
To find the requests in the PowerSchool Parent Portal, you must log in with the email address you used when you registered your child in LASD. Please choose “forgot password” if you need assistance with your password. If you do not have access to the PowerSchool Parent Portal, contact powerschoolsupport@lasdschools.org for help.

Become an Art Docent!
The Art Docent training program gives new volunteers everything they need to feel confident bringing art into the classroom. Trainees explore all the art mediums we teach while learning classroom management skills, how to lead engaging discussions, and how to give effective demonstrations.
New Docent Training takes place on Thursday mornings from 8:45–11:30 a.m. starting September 3rd and includes technique, art content, and general program topics. Once training begins, new docents gradually gain classroom experience—assisting in September, co-leading in November and December, and moving into assisting, co-leading, and leading lessons from January through May.
Join us! It’s a wonderful way to learn something new, share your creativity, and make a lasting impact on our students!
