Principal's Message
Principal's Message
Hello Covington Families,
I am excited to welcome you to the Covington community for the 2025-26 school year! As I enter my third year as principal, I cannot wait to reconnect with all of our students and families and welcome the new Coyotes at our Back to School Picnic on August 11th and on the first day of school on August 13th.
Here at Covington, we foster a safe culture, learn actively and collaboratively, develop perseverance, live respectfully and responsibly, and contribute meaningfully to our community and beyond.
To fulfill this mission at Covington and in LASD, our primary focus is around the LASD Student Experience and Deeper Learning. By building strong relationships, designing rich learning experiences for ALL students that center on purpose, agency, community, and active learning, I believe we will continue to build curious and confident learners that will be ready to face any challenges they face in the future. Coupling this with our work in supporting the social-emotional wellness for everyone on campus, I believe we are poised for great things this year and will continue.
A foundational piece of our school is the Coyote Way. We agree to show:
- Respect
- Responsibility
- Empathy
- Kind Mind
Our team embeds these agreements in all classrooms and across all parts of our campus.
I began my career in the Evergreen School District as a 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade teacher. During that time, I was fortunate to have worked with some innovative educational leaders and organizations and discovered a passion for designing and leading professional development at the school, district, and national level. While teaching and eventually as an instructional coach, I spent six years as a National Faculty member for PBL Works, providing workshops to school teams around the country. I was a principal in Evergreen for three years before getting the opportunity to come to LASD in 2023. To say that I am incredibly lucky to have landed in the LASD community is a vast understatement.
My wife, Kathryn, is a Coordinator of Curriculum in the Sunnyvale School District and was also a long time principal. Our older son, Connor, is off to Oregon state in the fall and our younger son, Cameron, will be a junior at Fremont High School. It’s hard to believe they will both be out of the house in a few years, but we are so incredibly proud of the young men they continue to become and look forward to the adventures they have in store.
I look forward to seeing you all soon and continuing to make Covington the CA Distinguished School that it is!
Sincerely,
Kevin Armstrong
